What’s Asana’s cancellation policy?

Asana allows free users to stop using the service at any time and paid users to cancel their paid plan at any time, with such cancellation taking effect at the next renewal date.

If you’re looking for personal or basic task management, you can at any time downgrade back to Asana Basic. If you choose to downgrade, the downgrade will take effect at the end of your current subscription period, and you will lose access to premium features.

Your ability to downgrade, adjust, or cancel your plan is subject to the Subscriber Terms or the applicable subscription agreement separately entered into by the parties.

How to cancel paid Asana subscriptions

A billing owner can downgrade a paid organization, team, or workspace at any time:

It's easy to cancel your subscription. To cancel a paid plan that you subscribed to online, log in to the Asana account you wish to cancel, click your profile photo from the right of the top bar, select Admin Console, navigate to the Billing tab, and then select Cancel Plan. Billing owners of paid plans who are on a manual invoice system and wish to adjust or cancel their plan for their upcoming renewal term should Contact billing through the Billing tab of their admin console.

How to cancel a paid workspace:

  • Click your profile photo from the right of the top bar and select Admin console
  • Navigate to the Billing tab
  • From the billing tab, select Cancel Plan/Trial or Edit Plan

To cancel a paid plan, the billing owner can navigate to the Billing tab of their admin console. Team plans can be cancelled through the Team Settings. You must be the billing owner to cancel your team plan.

Your team's billing owner can cancel your plan by clicking into your Team Settings and navigating to the Billing tab. The billing owner is the only person who can cancel all the different types of plans.

How to access a premium workspace or organization's billing page

You can access your billing page for your workspace through your workspace/organization Admin Console.

To access your workspace's Admin Console:

  1. Click your profile icon in the top right corner
  2. Click Admin Console

Once you click on Admin Console navigate to the Billing tab.

From the Billing tab, you can:

  1. Change your type of paid plan
  2. View your seat utilization
  3. Update your billing information
  4. Reassign billing ownership of the account
  5. Download your latest invoice
  6. Contact support to cancel

Upgrading or downgrading will not result in any data loss whatsoever. You will, however, lose access to all premium features if you downgrade from a paid to free Basic plan.

Canceling an Asana trial subscription

How do I cancel an Asana trial?

To cancel a trial that has started, follow the same steps for paid tiers above but click Cancel trial. You can cancel at any time during the 30-day trial period. If you cancel on or before your trial expiration date, your account will not be charged.

After canceling, and when you reach your plan renewal or trial expiration date, you will then be able to continue to use the tier of Asana you were on before starting the trial.

Note: Canceling your trial will result in the trial expiring on its renewal date so that you won't be charged, but you will still have access to paid features for the duration of the trial period.

If you require a trial to be removed immediately, even if you haven't added payment information, please contact our Support team. Be aware that trials that do not have payment information expire without any cost to you. In this case, feel free to let the trial run its course.

Cancellation flow for a workspace trial:

When you click on cancel, you will experience a series of page prompts which gives you the option to continue to cancel the trial or Keep Asana Premium.

Cancel your trial if you are 100% sure that canceling is the right decision for you.

This page prompts endeavor to ensure you are completely happy with your decision. You can change your mind anytime by clicking on Keep Asana Premium. Once we have received confirmation that cancellation is the only option for you, we will promptly fulfill your request, and you should see a confirmation screen at the end that says You have successfully canceled your trial.

Manual plans

Canceling a paid subscription on manual billing:

Billing owners of paid plans who are on a manual invoice system and wish to adjust or cancel their plan for their upcoming renewal term should Contact billing through the Billing tab of their admin console. If you wish to add a payment method, you can now do so via the Billing tab.

Navigate to the Billing tab.

  1. Go to the Payment info section
  2. Click into Contact billing
  3. Click Add a payment method if you wish to do add a new payment method.

Our support form will send your request to our support teams. You can additionally ‘live’ chat with our customer support teams (available weekdays - 1 am to 6 pm PST) if you need further help with canceling your plan for the upcoming renewal term.

Billing owners of team plans can request to cancel their manual plan for their upcoming renewal term through the Billing tab of their Team Settings.

Access Billing via the admin console

The billing owner of a paid organization, who is also the admin, can access their Billing tab through the admin console.

  1. Change your type of paid plan
  2. View your seat utilization
  3. Update your billing information
  4. Reassign billing ownership of the account
  5. Download your latest invoice
  6. Contact support

Only the current billing owner of an organization will be able to update the billing information, reassign billing ownership, download the latest invoice or cancel for their upcoming renewal term.

How to downgrade back to free

If you’re looking for personal or basic task management, you can at any time downgrade back to Asana Basic.

If you choose to downgrade, the downgrade will take effect at the end of your current subscription period.

  • From the Billing tab on your admin console select Cancel Plan/Trial or Edit Plan

Contact our Support team at any time if you are having any issues with cancelling your plan, editing your plan, or switching back to Asana Basic.

Downgrade and other options

If you choose to terminate your subscription to a paid tier, you and your team will lose access to premium features, including advanced team and project permissions, custom fields, timeline view, and task dependencies.

All cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.

How to edit your current plan

You can edit or switch your plan from the plan details section in admin console (via the Billing tab).

Credit card customers:

If you pay by credit card, simply select Edit Plan from the Billing tab of your admin console.

Manual invoice customers:

When you click into Edit plan, you will be routed to a data capture form where you will be asked to fill in details about your project, team, and the process you want to track in Asana.

After you have filled out your preferences, click Submit and an Asana specialist will be in touch after processing your request.

If you are the billing owner of a team plan, you access your Billing tab through your Team Settings.

How to change your paid plan size

Billing Owners can add seats through their admin console or in Team Settings for team plans.

If you’re on a manual invoice you will be directed to Asana sales to request the change.

You can change the size of your plan via the Seats drop-down menu when you choose to update the plan.

Plan details

On the Change Plan Details page, you can:

  1. Choose your type of paid plan
  2. Choose whether to be billed monthly or yearly
  3. Choose the size of your plan you wish to upgrade with the Seats drop-down
  4. Choose whether to upgrade the entire organization or only one team

When you have selected all of your options, click the Update Plan button.

All our plans are tiered. We do not offer paid subscriptions for 1-user plans but offer set increments of seats for smaller teams; such as 2, 3, 4 and up to 5 seat plans. When upgrading, you'll need to choose the most appropriate seat tier for your team size.
