How to create or discover an AI Teammate

AI Teammates help teams move work forward with support that stays connected to your projects, tasks, and workflows. You can create your own AI Teammate from scratch, start with a template, or discover one that already exists in your organization.

There are two main ways to open the AI Teammate gallery in Asana: 

  1. You can click + Create button and choose AI teammate from the menu, just as you would create a task, project, or goal.

2. You can also go to Agents and select AI Teammates, then click Create AI Teammate.

The AI Teammate gallery is where you can explore suggestions, preview templates, and create a custom AI Teammate. At the top of the gallery, you can search for AI Teammates or choose how you want to get started.

Discover an AI Teammate

If you want help finding the right AI Teammate, the gallery offers a few ways to explore. In the For you section, you may see AI Teammates that are already being used by teammates in your organization or recommendations based on the kind of work you do.

You can also review template cards organized by category, such as Marketing, IT, Product and Engineering, or Strategic Operations. Each card gives you a quick overview of what the AI Teammate is designed to help with.

When you open a template preview, you can see examples of the work it can do, the types of tasks it supports, and any connected tools it can use. This can help you decide whether to use the template as is or customize it for your team.

Get a recommendation from a project

If you are not sure where to start, you can use the Analyze project option in the gallery. Asana reviews the recent work in a project and suggests an AI Teammate that fits the patterns it finds.

In the recommendation flow, you choose a project and let Asana analyze its tasks, comments, fields, rules, and other work signals. After the analysis is complete, Asana suggests an AI Teammate and shows a preview of the work it can help with.

Create an AI Teammate from a template

Templates are a good option if you want a faster setup experience. They come with a suggested name, description, and behavior guidance so you do not need to start from a blank page. You can click into the different templates to preview examples of what they can do.

After you choose a template, Asana guides you through a setup flow where you can tailor the AI Teammate's access and define the first work it should take on. This approach works well for teams that want a proven starting point and plan to refine it over time.

Best for: Teams in Marketing, IT, Strategy & Ops, or Product Engineering who want to launch quickly using proven frameworks. 

Create a custom AI Teammate

If you have a specific workflow in mind, you can create a custom AI Teammate by describing what you want it to do in plain language. In the gallery, enter your prompt in the text box under What work will your AI teammate do? and submit it to begin the guided setup flow.

Asana uses your prompt to shape the AI Teammate's description, behavior, access, and initial tasks. This option is helpful when you want support for a team-specific process rather than a general template.

If you prefer to configure everything manually, click Create from scratch in the top right corner of the gallery. This lets you skip the guided flow and enter the setup details yourself.

Choose the right starting point

If you want inspiration or a faster setup path, start by browsing templates or recommendations in the gallery. If you already know the workflow you want to support, creating a custom AI Teammate can give you more control from the beginning.

No matter which path you choose, you can continue refining your AI Teammate after setup as your team learns how it works best.
