Comparisons to Capacity plan are only available on Asana Enterprise, Enterprise+, and Legacy Enterprise.
Compare mode in workload lets you view your team's actual and planned work side by side with capacity plan data or time estimates, all on one screen. Instead of switching between workload, timesheets, and capacity planning to reconcile data manually, you can use a single view to identify who is over or under allocated and whether execution is aligning with your original plan.
How to enable compare mode
- Open a Workload view from your portfolio or Universal Workload.
- Click Compare in the toolbar at the top of the screen.
- Select your comparison type.
Compare mode only appears when your workload is set up with a supported effort type. Supported effort types include:
- Percentage
- Estimated time
- Estimated cost
- Actual time
- Actual cost
If your workload uses a different effort setup, the Compare option will not be visible until you switch to one of these supported types.
Comparison types
There are two main ways to use compare mode:

Workload estimates against capacity planning: This comparison shows how the estimated effort on tasks in workload measures up against the planned capacity you set in your capacity plan. Use this to see whether your team's assigned work matches the staffing plan.

Actual time logged against estimated time: This comparison shows how the actual time logged on tasks compares to the time that was originally estimated for them. Use this to track whether work is taking more or less time than expected.
Choosing your measurement format
You can compare using either time (hours) or percent allocation, depending on how your team plans its work. For time-based comparisons, you can also switch into a cost view to see the comparison expressed in dollars.
Reading the comparison view
When compare mode is active, planned effort from your capacity plan appears as a dotted line in the workload timeline. For example, a value of 1.6h next to a team member's row indicates that person has 1.6 hours of capacity remaining for that day.
Click a cell in the timeline to open a popover that shows a breakdown by project, with columns for Estimated time on tasks and Planned time from the capacity plan, along with a Daily total and Remaining capacity figure.
This side-by-side view lets you quickly identify team members who are over- or under-allocated and take action without leaving the workload screen.
