Asana is officially discontinuing the Personal Projects spaces. All users currently using this legacy offering will need to migrate their data to a new or existing workspace or organization by December 15, 2025, after which Personal Projects will no longer be supported. You can continue using Asana at no cost in a free workspace, or choose to upgrade to a paid plan if you need additional features and support.

What’s happening and why?

The Personal Projects space was introduced in the early days of Asana as a way for new users to get started quickly. However, it lacks support for many core features of Asana's current architecture and is no longer actively maintained.

We are now phasing out Personal Projects to align all users with our modern, fully supported account model. This will ensure enhanced data security and admin control, as well as unlock access to powerful features such as AI tools, automations, custom fields, and advanced workflows*.

The functionality available on Asana's free tier remains unchanged. However, users on Personal Projects cannot upgrade to access paid features without migrating to a supported workspace.

Key dates

  • Now through Dec 15, 2025: Migrate your data at your convenience
  • Dec 15, 2025: Access to Personal Projects will be closed and remaining data will be deleted

How to identify a Personal Projects space

If you are part of Personal Projects you would have already received an email or seen the following banner when logging into Asana.

You can also go to your profile photo and see the following "Personal Projects" in the workspace switcher.

If you see either of these options, you are using the Personal Projects space and should proceed with moving your data

How to move your data

We recommend using our built-in CSV export feature to transfer your content to a new workspace or organization.

Some customers have found success using partner tools like Ditto. You can also explore additional partner apps and service-based options, including solutions offered by partners such as Workino, in our Asana Apps Directory.

Step by step guide on how to move from personal projects to a new workspace or organization

This guide walks you through exporting your project data, creating a new Workspace or Organization, and importing your projects back in.

Step 1: Export your project from personal projects

  1. Open Asana and switch to the Personal Projects workspace.
  2. Navigate to the project you want to export.
  3. Click the dropdown arrow next to the project title.
  4. Hover over Export/Print, then select CSV*.
  5. Save the exported .csv file to your computer.
  6. Repeat process for each project you want to transfer
Note iconNote

CSV exports do not include completed task status, comments, attachments, or images. To keep access to that history consider copying the comment history to the task description. For images and attachments consider saving them to your device and then re-attaching them after you import the project in step 3. For a solution that includes comments and attachments, you can leverage our partner apps, such as Ditto, for your copy.

Step 2: Create a new workspace or organization

If you want to create a workspace (ideal for personal use):

  1. Click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Select Settings
  3. Go to the Account tab
  4. Under Organizations and workspaces, select Create new workspace*
  5. Give your workspace a name (e.g., “My Projects”).
  6. Complete the setup flow.
  • If you used your company email when signing up for Personal Projects you will see two options when creating a workspace. If you have used Personal Projects for personal use, we recommend you select the option “Personal Use” which will guide you to create a new workspace by signing up with your personal email address. If your Personal Projects work is related to your organization, we suggest you add your data to a private project within your existing organization, not in a separate workspace from the organization.

If you want to create an organization (recommended for company email users and related work):

  1. Go to asana.com and log in with your work email address.
  2. If you're not already in an organization, Asana will prompt you to create one.
  3. Follow the setup steps to finish creating your new organization.
Note iconNote

A workspace is tied to your organization’s email; an organization is automatically created when using a company domain email (e.g., @company.com).

Step 3: Import projects into your new workspace or organization

  1. Switch to your new workspace or organization.
  2. Click the “+” button in the top bar or select “Create new project”.
  3. Choose “Import spreadsheet”.
  4. Upload your .csv file from Step 1.
  5. Follow the prompts to map columns (e.g., task name, assignee, due date).
  6. Click Import to complete.
  7. [optional] Re-attach images or attachments saved to your device
Note iconNote

Consider adding members to your workspace or organization first so that any mentions or assignments will be automatically triggered when you import the project.

Tips to make the most of your new setup

  • Invite collaborators to your new workspace or organization as needed.
  • Save attachments and images to your local device when creating a CSV export
  • Use custom fields to add structure to your imported tasks (available in paid plans).
  • Organize projects using teams or portfolios (available in paid plans).
  • Try out AI features, workflow automations and chat (available in paid plans).
