Getting started with your invitation
When someone invites you to Asana, you'll receive an email invitation with a link to join their organization or team. Here's what happens next:
Accept your invitation
- Click the invitation link in your email
- If you don't already have an Asana account, you'll be prompted to create one
- Enter your full name and create a password
- Verify your email address if prompted
Note
If you can't find the invitation email, check your spam folder or ask the person who invited you to resend it.
Understanding your new workspace
Once you've completed setup, you'll land in your new Asana workspace. Here's what you'll see:
Your home page
Your home page is your central hub where you can:
- View tasks assigned to you
- See recent project activity
- Access your starred projects
- Get personalized recommendations

Your first actions in Asana
1. Complete your profile
Click your profile photo in the top-right corner to:
- Add a profile picture
- Update your contact information
- Set your notification preferences
2. Explore your team's projects
Navigate to the projects your team is working on:
- Click on project names in the sidebar
- Review existing tasks and project structure
- See how your team organizes their work
3. Create your first task
Get familiar with task creation:
- Click the Create button in the sidebar
- Select Task
- Give it a name and assign it to yourself
- Add a due date and description
4. Join the conversation
Start collaborating right away:
- Comment on existing tasks
- Ask questions in project discussions
- Share updates on your progress

Sharing and inviting others
To invite team members to a project:
- Open the project
- Click the Share button in the top-right corner
- Enter email addresses or search for existing team members
- Choose their permission level (Project admin, editor, commenter, viewer)
Understanding project privacy
Projects can be:
- Private to members - Only invited members can access it
- Public to organization - Anyone in your organization can view it
Custom onboarding for Enterprise users
If your organization uses Asana Enterprise or Enterprise+, you might experience custom onboarding that includes:
- Custom welcome screen with your company branding
- Automatic team assignment to relevant groups
