Asana customers will be charged sales tax in certain US jurisdictions as a result of legislation imposing tax on companies providing digital services, such as Asana.
Please note that none of the information provided here should be considered tax advice, but a general overview of relevant tax rules and requirements. Please consult with your professional tax advisor for tax advice based on your specific facts and circumstances.
Customers in the US may be subject to state and local sales and use taxes.
Note
The “Sold To” address is used to determine whether your invoice is subject to tax. This information is subject to cross-referencing to ensure the address is accurate.
If you qualify for a tax exemption in the US, Asana users should submit their tax exemption documentation (such as an exemption certificate, resale certificate, or a direct-pay permit) directly through the admin console. Please note the following:
Please navigate to the Admin console and then to the Billing tab. In the Payment info section, please click "Request tax exempt status". A new pop-up will launch and guide you to create and submit an exemption certificate.
From here, the documentation will be reviewed and your account tax exemption status will be updated accordingly. If approved, future invoices will no longer incur sales tax. If the "Sold To" address is changed to a different tax jurisdiction, you may need to re-submit your exemption certificate.
Once approved, you will receive an email notification confirming the tax exemption has been applied. If you have already paid sales tax and require a refund, please reply directly to the approval email. Please note Asana will only refund sales tax charged on invoices issued within the last 60 days.
If your exemption certificate submission was rejected, please review the rejection email for further information and reasons for rejection.
Please ensure that the tax exemption documentation corresponds with the US state listed in your “Sold To” address, that the entity name on the certificate matches the customer name in your customer profile, and that the certificate is properly signed, where applicable. Certificates without a valid signature, where required, will be rejected and will need to be re-submitted.
