Asana is built to support any team, from early-stage startups to the largest enterprises. To do this, we offer a flexible approach to our pricing plans. In this article, we’ll break down the basics of an Asana subscription so you can be sure to find the plan that suits your needs best.

A subscription consists of the following parts: a base plan with its seat count, any selected add-on products, and optional recurring usage packs for Asana’s consumption-based products.

You can visit our pricing page to find the right plan for your team.

Asana base plans and tiers

The first factor which determines pricing is the base plan and tier chosen for the subscription. From Asana’s available base plans, choose either Agentic Work Management or Asana Client Management. Next, choose a tier for the selected base product. Asana offers 5 Agentic Work Management tiers and 2 Client Management tiers to suit different requirements.

For Agentic Work Management, choose from Starter, Advanced, Enterprise, or Enterprise+ tiers based on your company’s needs. Asana Personal is a free tier, ideal for individuals looking to manage their tasks.

For Asana Client Management, choose from Starter or Advanced, based on your company’s needs.

For more information on Asana's base plans and tiers, see our pricing page.

Seat count

The second factor which determines pricing is the seat count for the base plan. This is also referred to as the number of licenses.

When it comes to seat count, Asana grows with your team. The smallest subscription available is a 2-seat plan. Next, Asana offers 3-, 4- and 5-seat plans. Subscription size then increases in increments of 5 users when total users are less than or equal to 30; increments of 10 when total users are between 30 and 100; increments of 25 when total users are between 100 and 500; and increments of 50 when total users are more than 500.

Built with collaboration in mind, Asana does not offer a 1-seat plan. Apart from the 2-, 3-, and 4-seat plans listed above, it is not possible to add a single seat to a subscription.

Prepaid usage packs and on demand billing

Asana has a number of products that are made available on a consumption basis, including AI Teammates, Dash, and AI Studio. Usage for each of these products is metered and billed in accordance with the account’s plan. Asana uses two billable metrics to record, manage, and bill usage: AI Requests and AI Studio credits

For each of the two billable metrics, accounts have access to between one and three pools of usage depending on admin settings: included usage, prepaid usage, and on demand usage.

Included usage is the quantity of usagemade available to the account at no additional cost, based on the base plan, tier, and seat count. For AI Studio, included usage is also referred to as AI Studio Basic usage. For more details about included usage, see How request allotments and pooling work for AI requests or AI Studio Basic for AI Studio.

Prepaid usage is a quantity of usage optionally purchased on top of the account’s included usage. Prepaid usage purchased for any billable metric is valid for the subscription term and is recurring with some exceptions based on individual order forms or older plan agreements. Prepaid usage charges will appear on the customer’s invoice along with charges for the base plan, tier, and seat count.

When on demand usage is enabled for a billable metric by an account admin, the account’s users are able to consume usage beyond the account’s included and prepaid usage; this usage is referred to as on demand usage. On demand usage is billed in arrears each month. Account admins control whether an account’s users can consume on demand usage. Admins can disable on demand usage entirely or set a monthly limit..

In summary, the three pools of usage for a billable metric are: included usage, prepaid usage, and on demand usage. These pools are drawn in order: prepaid usage is only consumed once included usage is exhausted, and on-demand usage is only consumed once both are exhausted.

Who counts towards my Asana plan?

Asana offers you the flexibility of choosing where your subscription sits, thereby controlling which people are covered by your paid plan. You can choose to provide Enterprise feature access to the hundreds of people in your Asana organization, or select a specific 15-person team who need access to Starter features.

Who you pay for is decided by where the subscription sits – meaning which Asana space – and which people are part of that space. Members of that space will count towards your bill.

Note that guests do not count towards your bill, and do not take up a space on your subscription’s seat limit. Guests are available in teams, divisions, and organizations. For example, for a team of 12 people made up of 10 organization members and 2 guests, a 10-seat subscription on their specific Asana team will suffice.

Asana spaces: organizations, teams, divisions, and workspaces

As mentioned earlier in this article, a paid Asana plan can cover different spaces, and it's important for the billing owner or admins to know where the subscription sits.

Organizations

Organizations connect all the people at your company using Asana in a single space based on your company’s shared email domain. A subscription can sit at the organization level and cover every organization member.

  • Members: An organization member is a person using Asana who shares your organization’s email domain. If their email is janedoe@acme.com, they’ll be a member of the acme.com organization. When a subscription sits at the organization level, it covers every member of the organization, meaning every organization member is considered in each billing cycle.
  • Guests: Guests are users who do not share the same email domain as your organization. Guests are often external users such as vendors, clients, freelancers, or consultants. Guests are free, and do not take up a space on your subscription’s seat limit.

Teams

Teams are spaces inside of organizations. If you purchase seats via a team, seats are assigned to people on that team who don’t already have a license. In divisions, licenses are assigned to individual users and travel with them across Asana; when licensed users share work or invite others to join them on objects like projects or teams, Asana may automatically assign a paid seat to those collaborators to ensure access to paid features. Guests remain free and do not consume seats.

Divisions

Divisions are also part of organizations. With a division plan, where a single subscription covers multiple teams, every member of those teams counts towards the seat limit. Someone who is part of many teams in a single division is only counted against the subscription’s seat limit once. Guests again are not considered in the billing cycle.

Workspaces

Workspaces are different to organizations, and function as a fully separate space. A workspace is a collection of people that collaborate on projects and tasks. Workspaces can be used by any group of people and do not require a common company email domain. Unlike organizations, anyone collaborating in a workspace counts towards the paid plan, whether full members or guests.
