When you start using Client Management, your first milestone is getting a client set up and sharing work with them. The process is simple: create the client, add the first project you deliver for them, and open the client portal so your client can stay connected to that work.
To get started, open Clients from the Client Management sidebar.
Select Create client, then enter your client's name.
You can also add details like their website, address, and one or two contacts during setup.
After you create the client, open their profile and go to Projects. Select Add work to add the first project you deliver for them. When you add that first project, Asana automatically creates the client's portal, so you do not need to set it up separately.
Client Portal is available on the Advanced tier.
Once the portal is created, open it from the client record and make it feel ready to share. You can upload a cover image and review the welcome update so your client sees polished, relevant information when they sign in.
This is a good time to make sure the portal reflects the work you want the client to see first. A quick review before sharing can help you present the right context from the start.

When the portal looks ready, select Share with client and invite your client by email. This gives them access to log in and view the work you have shared with them.
If you are setting up a new client relationship, inviting them after you personalize the portal can create a smoother first experience. They will land in a space that already looks complete and useful.
After your client has access, you can begin sharing work into the portal. Add to-dos, post a status update, and share files from your project so your client can follow progress in one place.
This helps you keep communication and delivery connected. Instead of sending updates across different tools, you can share the work directly where your client already expects to find it.
If you are working elsewhere in Asana, you can also create a client from the global + button. Select Client to start a new client without needing to open the Clients page first.
